Description
Mighty Matcha by The Apothecary
Matcha (meaning “finely powdered tea”) is strictly sourced from young green tea leaves, and The Apothecary exclusively uses certified organic sources in Japan’s Kyoto Prefecture.
What is Matcha?
Matcha means “finely powdered tea,” and it is made from young green tea leaves. All Matcha is shade grown, this is because the shading of the leaves produces extra chlorophyll which gives it its beautiful green color. Matcha comes from green tea leaves, however, it is grown differently. Matcha farmers cover their plants 20-30 days before harvesting to avoid direct sunlight. This process increases the production of chlorophyll giving the plant a darker hue and in turn, boosts the amino acid content. Instead of the leaves being rolled, shaped, and dried like traditional tea leaves, Matcha tea leaves are dried and then ground in a slow-turning mill which creates the green tea powder. Generally, Matcha is whisked into hot water or steamed milk. Matcha tends to have more caffeine than other green teas and black tea.
The ceremonial act of drinking tea was taken up by the Samurai class and high-ranking members of society. The tea ceremony, The Way of Tea, is still practiced today. It is centered around the art of preparing and serving matcha. Originally, developed as a spiritual practice the principles are still very important to the tea ceremonies today.
What are the benefits of Mighty Matcha?
Matcha is rich in catechins, a plant compound that acts naturally as an antioxidant. Because it comes from ground green tea leaves, it has a more concentrated amount of antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds. It is also high in vitamin C, selenium, chromium, zinc, and magnesium.
One cup of Matcha has as many antioxidants as 10 cups of brewed green tea.
What does Mighty Matcha taste like?
Our Matcha is the ceremonial grade which means it is often used for tea ceremonies and is delicious to drink straight. It has a sweet grassy flavor. Ceremonial Grade Matcha is made from the youngest of leaves with all the stems and veins removed giving it a smoother flavor and texture.
Tasting Notes: Vegetal, Grassy, Bright
When should I drink Mighty Matcha?
Since Matcha is a green tea that contains caffeine, we suggest drinking it in the morning as a coffee replacement or as a pick-me-up in the middle of the day.
